Description of the voyage
We will leave an autumnal Rotterdam to head for our sunny destination: Cape Verde. This long voyage offers you the opportunity to experience the true life of a sailor. You will be part of the crew and will participate in the watches. We will not make many stops, as few as possible, during this trip. Therefore, this voyage is not meant for people who wish to go sightseeing. You will be on board of a threemasted topsail schooner for three and a half weeks. A voyage of 2500 miles lies ahead. Via the North Sea we will sail in the direction of the English canal after which we will cross the Bay of Biscay. During this first part of the voyage we might encounter bad weather and it will be quite cold on the open sea.

We make a stop in Vigo, on the Spanish coast just above Portugal. Here you can bring a visit to the city or enjoy an afternoon on a terrace. After this visit we will sail alongside the Portuguese coast heading south. Gradually the temperature will go up. Once we pass the South Cape of Portugal, Cabo São Vincente, we can expect good weather and favourable wind in the direction of the Canary Islands. We will make a stop here and prepare ourselves for the final part of the voyage to Cape Verde.

This last part will probably be very pleasant. We will catch the northeast Trade wind and also the current will be favourable. At this moment we are so far to the south that the temperature will be very nice and we hope to cover the final 700 miles at a quick rate. It is possible that we will arrive sooner, but we hope to drop anchor in the bay of Santa Maria on the 9th of January at the latest. The next day at 9 AM, after breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye to the ship and either fly back home or continue your stay on the Cape Verde by yourself.

General
A mile maker is a voyage that is meant to bring the ship from point A to point B as soon as possible. Depending on the weather it is possible that the duration of the milemaker is two days longer of shorter than expected.  You pay a fixed price for your participation, regardless of the duration. This description is meant to give you an impression of how a voyage could look like. Depending on wind and weather conditions the travel plan could be altered, however we always try to sail as much as possible.
