Crew

The crew generally consist of the captain, mate, engineer, boatswain, two ordinary seamen (AB’s), a cook and cook’s mate. The crew is qualified according to the STCW ’95 standards.

This means that the captain and the mate will have a certificate of competency for ships of this size for a worldwide trading area, plus a special amendment for sailing ships. Also they need to be in possession of the certificates ‘GMDSS radio operator’, ‘Radarnavigator’, ‘Adfanced firefighting’, ‘Medical care on board’, etc. Before someone can be appointed as officer they need to be able to show that they have spend a considerable amount of time at sea as a shipsmate. The rest of the regular deck crew has passed the course ‘safety at sea’, and every crewmember has passed a complete medical check up which is necessary for sailing at sea.

The regular crew doesn’t just concern themselves with sailing the ship, but also instructs the guests, and helps the guests in getting to know their way around the ship. The crew is also responsible for cleaning and maintenance of the ‘’.
